Gods and Powers

The northern gods, the forgotten makers before them, and the Primordial Powers that answer to no one.

In Myrvand, faith, legend and history do not always agree, and no one holds the whole truth. Here is what its peoples believe, fear and whisper.

The northern gods

The Skeldr call on Odin, the seeker and oath-witness who buys wisdom at a cost, and on Thor, god of thunder and protector of ordinary people, honored even by Stonebound smiths. Beside them stand Frigg, Freyja, Freyr, Njord, Tyr, Heimdall, Loki and Hel. Valkyries are reported at great battles so often that even skeptics argue about them: armored women, storm-shapes, riders made of light. Whether the gods still act in the present age, no one can prove.

The Aethyr are often mistaken for gods. Most of them reject the title.

The makers before the gods

Older than any temple are the rarest fragments of all. They speak of the Veyndra, the first god-folk, who sang the ordered universe into being in the Making Choir, of the War of the First Dawn that broke their unity, and of Aldren, the First Witness, who saw Myrvand's first rain and stayed. Their stories are gathered below.

The Primordial Powers

The Primordials are not peoples, not gods and not ordinary monsters. Nobody knows where they came from, not even the Aethyr.

  • Eida, the First Hart: life, seasons, migration and renewal.
  • Avarr, the Deep Root: earth, roots and buried memory.
  • Uroth, the Tide Below: sea, depth, change and return.
  • Skjarn, the White Silence: winter, stillness, hunger and sleep.
  • Vuldra, the Heart Under Stone: fire, pressure and mountains.
  • Solvyr: sky, storm and freedom.
  • Myrauth, the Fen Mother: decay, cleansing and rebirth.
  • Nhal, the Hollow Star: absence, forgetting and broken names.

They can be survived, diverted or studied, but rarely defeated. Lately they stir more often, and no one agrees why.
